Child and Parent Factors That Impact Child Anxiety A considerable body of research has identified various child and parent factors that contribute to and maintain anxiety symptoms in children. Yet relatively few studies have examined child factors (including threat-based cognitive bias, neuroticism, gender, puberty and age) as well as parent factors (including maternal anxiety and child-rearing style) and the extent to which these factors serve as predictors of child anxiety. A Griffith University team in Queensland set out to examine the extent to which child and parent factors are uniquely associated with child anxiety symptoms. They also set out to … Continue reading Don’t forget to check out the latest Blog on You Can Do It! Parents

Connecting with Cambodia

I have been fortunate to be invited to spend January in Cambodia to participate in the Angkor Project and teach in schools. Whilst Glengarry does not have a sister school there, I will be finding out about how it all works. If you have any pens or pencils which you want to go to a good home, I will take them with me.  I can’t carry paper as it’s too heavy but even team hats, erasers sharpeners are all appreciated. Read below to find out more.   The Angkor Project Teacher Story The Angkor Project overview “Education is the most … Continue reading Connecting with Cambodia

House Captains’ Activities

House captains spent a lunch-time getting to know the children in their house. Here they are asking about some goals set last year. House captains like children to come and speak with them about house activities. They have more lunch events planned to happen soon!

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays

Have a wonderful time with those you love and if this Christmas is a difficult or sad time for you, look to your future and know that your children are a wonderful blessing. Here are some ideas to keep children fit & healthy (and busy)… Make a tabloid activity using toys and soft objects. Set an hour glass to start off each new station. Sort socks into pair balls and practise juggling or shooting baskets with them. Have a treasure hunt. Play under a sprinkler. Wash anything in your bathers. Make ice-cream treats with frozen yogurt. Make up a skipping, … Continue reading Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays

Off-road bikes and Alfreton bushland

Our beautiful bushland with a bike trail through the middle. This seems a lovely environment for bikes to ride. The problem is for the native insects, reptiles, mammals and birds. The riders are still digging up more virgin areas of bushland. Can anyone help with how we might stop further vandalism of the bush and also have a trail for bikes?(they have already damaged the trail anyhow). Please add a comment if you have any ideas or are willing to follow this up for our childrens’ future.

Fruit & Veg Month

As the Interschool Athletics Carnival is coming up, I’d like to take the pressure off parents to fill the lunch box with ‘energy’ foods as these are generally packed with extra sugar and preservatives. If the child nearby is eating fresh vegetables, perhaps a trend will develop!! Maybe try cutting up some fresh veges with a small dip (a waste-free spoon out of a larger container to keep it cheap). This September, Glengarry is proud to participate in ‘Fruits & Veggies – More Matters’ Month. I do not like campaigns which tell us to eat ‘more’ or ‘less’ of foods, … Continue reading Fruit & Veg Month

Fantastic Fresh Food Day

Here are the recipes as requested. By all accounts children enjoyed the day and a lot of learning happened. Hopefully, there will be more use of our fabulous kitchen to prepare food (on a smaller scale) in future. Cooking seems to work when children use a couple of trestles in the hall and take turns helping in the kitchen. And what now? There is talk of a multi-cultural food day next year – any takers? Year 6s have first dibs at the yogurt which is left over from the kind donation by Mundella. The kitchen has a Thermomix and blender. … Continue reading Fantastic Fresh Food Day

Fantastic Fresh Food Day – get involved – a couple of hours?

Our planning group will meet from 3.05 next Monday 10th August in my room. All are welcome as we try to allocate some jobs. If you can give a few hours, this will take the pressure off someone. There will be jobs, on the tables the children visit and behind the scenes before and after the day. If you can’t make this day, pleae email to say what you are happy to do. Fresh Food Day is to be Wednesday 26th August. …hope you can be part of it!
