Introducing……..Glengarry Bush Club

E-mails about our new Bushland Club are currently working their way to your inboxes via the class reps.

Our exciting new club will be kicking off with a Treasure Hunt on Thursday 21st May. A sneek preview is below but if your child would like to join in with the fun and learning, please complete the expression of interest form that you will receive via e-mail any moment soon……..

The Bush Club is part of Glengarry Primary School’s HOPE group – Help Our Precious Environment.

The club is a ‘friend’ to the bush and welcomes general community members. It is affiliated with the Urban Bush Council and the aims fit within those of World Wildlife. We want to educate about what lives in the bush, care for it and save the land from being cleared or damaged.

This term we have planned a Treasure Hunt as the first activity. Other activities will include making signs, bird watching, taking photos of species to recording on the register, weeding and planting. We have some well-qualified help – an artist to run the drawing sessions and a few biologists to advise on this important work.

Each club meeting will start at 3pm in the undercover area with an afternoon tea, then a fun warm-up game and the bush activity in the Alfreton Bush Reserve, finishing at 4.15pm. The charge will be $1.50 each session to cover afternoon tea. Club members will be provided with a ‘nature play’ passport and the activities can be recorded as we go.

One adult will be needed per six children, so parents who work may know someone who can come along. The groups will stay within eyesight of each other. Adults who want to gain an affinity for nature usually enjoy this worthwhile community contribution and their time is much appreciated.

The group will be limited to thirty so if there are enough for two groups we can arrange another session.

    1. Thanks for your encouraging words. I’m looking forward to all of the coming art and exploring projects that we’ll be doing.
P.S. I’ll be watching our for the team at the footy on the weekend.

  2. Does anyone have jars which are 10 cm across the top? We’re collecting them to make our pit traps for studying invertebrates. They can be bought at IKEA for about $3.50 each but maybe someone buys a product which comes in such jars.
