School holiday activities on the water

Have you considered yachting or fishing locally at Hillarys? We don’t advertise for profit-making clubs in our newsletter and I can’t endorse this group, except to say that they have been operating for quite some years.  You might like to check it our for yourself – looks like some great learning would occur in the great outdoors… hillarys-yacht-club-school-holiday-sailing-and-fishing-program-dec-16-jan-17

for girls who want to play in an Australian Football League team

Good morning to all of you and I hope the school year has been kind to you and your students.  I am sending this email on behalf of the Sorrento Duncraig Junior Football Club.  As many people will be aware the AFL Womens League commences in 2017 and both the Australian Football League and the West Australian Football Commission have received increased interest in the game from interested females. The Northern Junior Football Conference (of which Sorrento Duncraig are a part of) is running a girls only competition next season for girls aged between 10 and 12 years of age … Continue reading for girls who want to play in an Australian Football League team

Well done lunch providers!

no-junk lunches Recent reports on more Australians being overweight do not apply to the children at Glengarry!  One only has to take a look around at our students.  As we feed children they grow into healthy adults with healthy habits. Lunch boxes filled with fresh, unprocessed fruit and vegetables, whole-grain cereal breads & ‘no added sugar’ snacks are a major factor. The other main factor in  fitness, is that Glengarry children run around a lot in their breaks, clearly enjoying the exercise and taking advantage of our spacious grounds. This information is from the Australian Government…Excess weight, especially obesity, is … Continue reading Well done lunch providers!

Black Cockatoo fundraiser

Many thanks to all who tossed in a few coins for the Black Cockatoo fundraiser.  We raised about $117.  There is a jar on the reception desk, in the office.  Please send more coins if you can.  I will send off a cheque early next week. When I attend the 2016 Friends of Underwood Avenue Bushland Annual General Meeting on Saturday I will let them know how much we have raised for Kaarakin. Afterwards is a talk by Dr Anna le Souef entitled ‘The Secret Life of Cockatoos: The latest research in the race to save the Carnaby’s cockatoo’. … Continue reading Black Cockatoo fundraiser

Swimming Carnivals 2017

I’m coordinating the Year 4,5,6 House (Friday 10 March) and Inter-school (Friday 31 March) swimming carnivals next year.  It is our turn to host the inter-school event and this entails setting up and packing down as for the House Carnival. I’m looking to form a small committee to help with the carnivals. My experience in organizing carnivals includes taking on the role of Life Guard.  I however will not update my Bronze Medallion next year so need to source someone to be Life Guard at the House Carnival.  (I have someone for the Inter-school Carnival).  The lifeguard is on call … Continue reading Swimming Carnivals 2017

bushland care – come collect a bouquet of daisies!

Yes I can help you to find the flowers which are weeds and you can take them away to put in a vase.  Today the council is fencing the other virgin bushland areas of Alfreton/Glengarry Reserve.  There will be an effort to leave a bike trail.  Education is needed for visitors to understand how to care for seedlings and to know that damaging the bush is a criminal offence. Ways the bush can be damaged: Trampling plants Digging holes Dumping cuttings which bring in weeds Breaking branches to build cubbies leaving litter to hurt wildlife allowing dog droppings which make … Continue reading bushland care – come collect a bouquet of daisies!

Our youngsters are coming through and we had a great day at the Arena!  Once again we were very proud of our team’s efforts, sportspersonship and behaviour.  We had two overall champions: Leo Halden was Year 4 Champion boy and Nathan Rawlings was Year 5 Runner-up Champion Boy.  Please note only Years 3 to 6 are considered for points.  Cross-country, jumps, throws, 400m, 200m and sprints are included. Well done boys and especially to all of the other champs who won a ribbon. We came 5th on the Meritorious Shield list (for most improved school) and 5th on the … Continue reading Inter-school Athletics Results

Jumps, Throws & 400m results

Well done to all competitors!  Here are the House scores for each event. The top two competitors in each event will go to the inter-school competition and the next two are reserves. Please try to do a few training runs.  You could try timing yourself.  Remember we will be happy with you just competing and trying your hardest, even if it isn’t your best.  The purpose of training is to make the event feel a bit easier for you, so go to it! Special thanks to Mrs Rawlings and Mrs Gabbitus for assisting with the throws. JUMPS   BANKS36  FORREST44  DAMPIER42  … Continue reading Jumps, Throws & 400m results
